Twitter: Push even more content in 140 characters

Submitted by Eleanor Williams on

Composing a Tweet that is not only comprehensive but also includes the link, image and Twitter handles requested by a client is not only difficult, but sometimes impossible within the 140 character limit!
Now, Twitter has revealed that they are enabling us to do even more in our Tweets and are making changes to simplify what counts towards the 140 characters:

  • Replies: @names will no longer count toward the 140-character count, making conversations easier!
  • Media: Attachments such as photos, videos, polls, Quote Tweets or GIFs will no longer count as characters!
  • Retweet and Quote Tweet: Ever wanted to Retweet something you previously Tweeted? Well now you will be able to! Twitter is enabling the Retweet button on your own Tweets.
  • .@: The .@ format will be no more following the release of Twitter’s changes. Tweets beginning with a username will now reach all your followers meaning you will no longer need to use .@!

Happy Tweeting!
